As a clinical neurologist, Dr. Ikenaka has trained for 15 years and possesses a neurology specialist certification. His main clinical field is device-aided therapy for Parkinson's disease, especially that with LCIG. More recently, He has participated in the clinical trial of the ABBV-951, a continuous subcutaneous infusion of phos-levodopa/ phos-carbidopa drug, and worked as a global advisory board to discuss the best utilization of this device for PD patients. Through those experiences, he has developed a strong interest in the pathomechanisms of motor complications, especially dyskinesia, and managing the complication by adjusting the drug. For clinical and biomarker research, he has been working to develop a biomarker to detect alpha-synuclein aggregates in the biosamples using the RT-QUIC system and trying to diagnose PD and MSA by monitoring the polymorphisms of the amplified aSyn aggregates from the patients. Also, as a neuroscientist, he has published more than 40 manuscripts targeting Parkinson's disease and ALS pathomechanisms. His recent interest is to uncover the mechanisms that impart the polymorphisms of the aSyn aggregates. We found that the environmental factor during the fibril formation affects the conformational states of aSyn monomer and leads to the different final products of the fibrils.
