This has been achieved in annual conferences which have been held in different parts of Asia since the first meeting in Chennai in 2007. It wonderful to return to Malaysia as the 2012 conference was held in Kuala Lumpur.

The theme of “Rethinking Dementia: The Concept of One Health”, is most appropriate given recent advances in disease modifying treatment for early Alzheimer’s Dementia, which now need to be implemented. Moreover, a focus on good Brain Health across the life course is vital to reducing the large and growing healthcare burden associated with brain disorders. We must look beyond the treatment of disorders or rehabilitation by focusing on preventive measures to decrease the incidence of brain disorders, thus enabling our patients and families to realise their full potential. These and many other topics will be part of this exciting conference and I hope that we can meet together soon in Penang!
